Every August 19, Quezon City celebrates Quezon Day, honoring the birth anniversary of President Manuel L. Quezon—the visionary leader whose dream gave rise to what is now the Philippines' largest city. More than just a holiday, the occasion celebrates a city built on progress, community, and a shared sense of purpose. (Republic Act No. 6741)
Established in 1939, Quezon City was envisioned by President Quezon as a modern capital that would support the country's growing population and aspirations. It later served as the nation's capital from 1948 until 1976 and remains the country's largest city by land area, as well as a thriving center for business, education, healthcare, and culture. Did You Know?
Quezon Day is celebrated every August 19. Through Republic Act No. 6741, the day is observed as a special working holiday nationwide and a special non-working holiday in Quezon City, Quezon Province, and Aurora.
Quezon City was originally envisioned as the country's future capital. Wide roads, government institutions, and thoughtfully planned communities reflected President Quezon's vision of a modern and progressive Philippine capital.
Today, Quezon City is home to some of the country's leading universities, hospitals, business districts, and cultural institutions. Its diverse communities continue to make it one of the most dynamic and vibrant cities in the Philippines.
